there is an expression ... the 'haves' and the have-nots' ... (they mean it in the sense of rich and poor but it can be much more) ... and the two sides of the face depict that so clearly! *that* is envy, isn't it? those who envy are happy when they have an surprised and sad when they do not.

the idea of a child/doll face portrays clearly that this is a primal sense of self ... "I am more important than anyone else and thus my needs should be more important". (The slight surprise effect also speaks ot this.
